Collection: Kentucky Agate

Kentucky agate is the designated state gemstone of Kentucky.

Imperial red Kentucky agate comes only from one small area of Kentucky. Estill county is known for having the most beautiful Kentucky agate, with intense red banding. However, even when agates are found in this area, only 1 out of 100 will contain the red coloration. The only way to know if the interior of an agate nodule is red is to cut it open. At an average of one hour per slice, this ends up being approximately 100 hours of saw time just to find one imperial red agate. This is truly a unique and rare North American treasure, and a must have for any rocky collector with ties to Kentucky.
